According to the National Statistics Institute the total revenues from nights spent in the accommodation establishments were less by 6.3% in the first quarter of 2010 compared to the first quarter of 2009, reaching to 73.8 million levs, while the revenues from nights spent by foreigners increased by 8.5% to 40.6 million levs.
In the first quarter of 2010, 2 003 accommodation establishments - hotels, motels, camping sites, mountain chalets and other establishments for short-term accommodation with more than 10 bed places were functioned in the country. The number of rooms in them was 53.8, while the number of the bed-places - 117.6 thousand. In comparison with the same period of 2009 the total number of accommodation establishments has increased by (1.5%) and these of the rooms and the bed-places by 871 (1.6%) and by 3565 (3.1%) respectively.
In the first quarter of 2010, the total number of the nights spent in all accommodation
establishments fell by 130 thousand (8.0%) to 1 494.9 thousand compared to same period in 2009.
In the first quarter of 2010, the number of nights spent by Bulgarian citizens in accommodation establishments decreased by 170 thousand (17.5%) to 804.4 thousand compared to the first quarter of 2009.
The number of the nights spent by foreigners in accommodation establishments increased by 6.2% versus the first quarter of 2009. More nights were spent by the residents of the following countries: Portugal - by 108.0%, Serbia - by 45.6%, Romania - by 39.7%, Spain - by 37.1%, Russion Fed. - by 35.5%, Turkey - by 29.8%, Rep. of Korea - by 29.6%, Greece - by 24.5%,etc.
A decrease in the nights spent by foreigners in accommodation establishments was observed for the Iceland - by 88.0%, Brazil - by 53.4%, Slovakia - by 49.6%, Malta - by 41.1%, USA - by 39.1%, Croatia - by 38.1%, Ireland - by 33.9%, Lithuania - by 28.2%, Latvia - by 23.3%, Netherland - by 23.2%, etc.
In the first quarter of 2010, the total number of arrivals in accommodation establishments decreased by 54.9 thousand (7.7%) to 655.2 thousand. The relative share of arrivals of Bulgarian citizens was 53.8% of all arrivals.
The number of arrivals of foreigners in accommodation establishments increased by 21.9 thousand (10.7%) compared to the same period of the previous year. The greatest share was the arrivals of residents from United Kingdom (22.9%). Almost all foreigners (99.1%) prefer to spend the night in hotels, while only 0.9% of them have spent the night in the other accommodation establishments.
The total occupation of the bed-places in accommodation establishments in the first quarter of 2010 was 14.9% which was 1.4 percentage points below the registered in the same period of the previous year.
