The Privatization Agency has seized over 850 properties of Bulgaria's telecom service provider Vivacom across the country. Among them is the emblematic ‘Telephone Palace' in central Sofia.

"We are shocked, as the agency has been granting mortgages on our buildings over the last month and a half," said Michaela Kalaydzhieva, a Vivacom representative.

"We heard about the case after we went to conclude a deal for a building in the countryside," she said adding that the statement of charges showed that the property had a mortgage issued to the State and the sale fell through.

Seizure of private property was made possible after the amendment to Privatization and Post-Privatization Control Act, Trud reported.
