Bulgaria's August Construction Index Down 12% Y/Y

In August, the construction production in Bulgaria is up in comparison to previous month, but is still down on annual basis, statistics show.

According to preliminary data from the National Statistics Institute (NSI), the production in the construction sector increased by 1,6% in August, in comparison to July.

However, the sector registered a decrease of 11,6%, year-on-year.

The August the volume of retail trade, except cars and motorcycles trade, dropped down by 0,3% from the previous month and by 4,3%, compared with August 2009.

The Bulgarian industrial production for August marked an increase of 1,1% in comparison to July 2010 and of 3,7%, year-on-year.

On monthly basis, the manufacturing increased by 1,7%, while the production and distribution of electricity, heat and gas decreased by 0,3% and mining went down by 1,4%.

A more significant growth in the industrial production was registered in the production of vehicles other than cars - 55%.

Repair and installment of machinery and equipment has also went up by 11,9%, paper and paperboard production - by 8,7%, manufacture of chemical products - by 5,9%, production of machinery and equipment for general and special purposes - by 4,7%.

Decrease was registered in the production of tobacco products - by 7%, textile productions - by 6,7% and apparel production - by 4,8%.

On annual basis, manufacturing went up by 5,1%, production and distribution of electricity, head and gas - by 1,5% and mining - by 1%.

A growth was also registered in the production of investment goods - 12,6%, intermediate goods - 8,2% and energy products - 1,6%.
