Bulgaria's construction output decline third sharpest in EU in March

Bulgaria ranked third among the European Union members with the steepest monthly decline in the construction sector in March, posting a drop of 3.1 per cent on a monthly basis, data by EU statistics office Eurostat showed on May 18 2011.

The countries that fared worse than Bulgaria in the period were Slovenia and Portugal, who saw their construction output fall 7.4 per cent and 5.1 per cent month-on-month, respectively.

Eurozone members registered an average monthly decrease of 0.9 per cent in March, while construction output in EU countries went up by 1.9 per cent, the third monthly rise in a row.

The largest increase of 15.8 per cent was recorded by the UK, followed by Germany with 6.2 per cent and Slovakia with 5.6 per cent.
