Greek-based Piraeus Bank has signed a preliminary agreement to acquire an office building in Sofia, part of the European Trade Center office compound on Tzarigradsko Shosse. The agreement, signed last year, is now pending finalization, market sources told Trud Daily. Piraeus Bank representatives declined to comment, saying that nothing is final.

The transaction includes 7,715 sq. m of gross floor area and 94 parking spaces. According to unofficial information, the property will cost the bank between EUR 10 and 13 mln. It is virtually certain that the property will house the bank's Sofia headquarters.

The deal is not surprising, given the fact that Piraeus Bank and European Trade Center have been partnering for years. The financial institution earlier provided a loan to finance the project development.

In 2009, Carrefour Bulgaria rented the whole building, but later moved its office to one floor on another part of the complex.

Piraeus Bank is the second Greek bank, whose headquarters will be located on Tsarigradsko Shosse, after Alpha Bank, which will open a new building next to Pliska Hotel later this year.
